My personal understanding of appropriate communication related to the use of social media in the nursing environment has improved since taking Leadership and Management in Health Care. In the beginning of nursing school my fellow classmates and I were informed about HIPAA which I have understood clearly. As a nursing student and a future nurse, patient confidentiality if very serious. I have had situations where a patient wishes to maintain contact outside of the hospital and I knew that I had to decline. In class, we reviewed other ways that social media use can be inappropriately. Mrs. Sykes presented “memes” that did not reflect well on nursing. Many of them made it look like nurses were too busy to deal with patients and did not work well
