Which side are you on? Animal welfare or Animal rights? What is the difference between animal welfare and animal rights? People who are for animal rights think animals should not be treated badly or used in any way to benefit humans, mostly are vegan. Animal welfarists believe in treating animals with respect and giving the best conditions possible (Geer, 1,2). The difference between Animal Rights and Animal Welfare, “Animals rights advocates are campaigning for no cages, while animals welfarists are campaigning for bigger cages, (Geer, 1). Animal rights activists believe rights for animals should be similar to rights humans have (James, 57). They have developed their own version of rights for animals such as, “ We do therefore declare that these animals, have the right to live free from human exploitation, whether in the name of science or sport, exhibition or service, food or fashion, have the right to live in harmony with their nature rather than according to human desires, have the right to live on a healthy planet,(James, p.57).” Both animal rights activists and animal welfare activists are concerned with the treatment and suffering of animals.
