One reading that interested me was the first chapter of “Understanding Black American Aspects In Hip Hop Cinema” by Tani Sanchez. This reading made me understand more about the past and how hip hop music was born. It provided so much information about the history of it all. It explained how music radiates through people to better the world. Within that first chapter of “Understanding Black American Aspects In Hip Hip Cinema”, it focused on the aspect of importance of hip hop music, where it developed, and who it affected while also touching on politics instead of focusing on the negative.…
In his essay, The Hip Hop Nation. Whose is it? In the End, Black Men Must Lead, Toure defines the complexity and selectivity that associated with the hip hop nation. I like his writing style, in the begging of his essay when he said that no map maker would respect this nation because it has no fixed boundaries, no physical land, no single chief, and no exact date of origin. Rather, hip hop nation is a state of mind.…
I. The music is a diverse mix of modern Broadway music and rap music. A. Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote the musical and acted as Alexander Hamilton himself, felt that hip-hop and rap worked best for Hamilton’s life. 1. Each founding father has a different rap pattern and abinet meetings are performed through rap battles.…
Boyz N the Hood is a tough, raw film. The sense of frustration and urgency expressed is so great that at times Singleton's characters seem to mount invisible soapboxes to address the audience directly and shake some sense into them. Judged from a strictly aesthetic viewpoint, these moments are flaws; in this film, paradoxically, they add to the overwhelming feeling of real life and direct witness. Singleton quietly observes that “films serve different purposes, some are meant just to entertain, but there's also room for other films that inform as…
R & B/Hip-Hop music has undergone a radical transformation over the last twenty-six years. The new millenniums of young artist have changed the way we listen and view music. In the early 1990’s R & B/Hip-Hop music or other music genre had a different composition, demographic prospective and conveyed different emotions compared to today. Music in the 90’s era was less instrumentally inclined compared to this new era of music (article). Music today is more about image, fashion, promoting sex and magnifying the use of drugs.…
Women’s role in the music industry is always perceived have since they are usually shown undressed and dancing seductively. Instead, of adolescence, them fully closed and taking bigger roles like rapping or even if they are dancing they should be a bit more covered. Also, when they are addressed it’s usually in a rude manner rather than being talked in a positive manner or even talk feel like when they fell in love or a positive experience they experienced with a female. However, they usually would sing how they want them to shake their buttocks on their lower parts.…
Envision that you are a Caucasian female in an African American high school and a brawl breaks out in the school cafeteria. You go to investigate what happened. You arrive at the scene just as it is about to be broken up and you observe that one of the females (Shanice) on the floor is shouting at the other “Girl, you are so lucky! When I catch you, you’re mine!” The other female (Daryl) screams “Damn, bruh!…
The Intercity Rules How did the movie Boyz N The Hood give me a better understanding on how to live in South Los Angeles? When I was living in South Los Angeles this movie impacted my life, because it showed me how to be street smart. Boyz N the Hood gave me advice on how to live in a vicious life style of black-on-black crimes in South Central Los Angeles. I was unaware of the dangerous streets, manipulative people, the high rate of teen pregnancy, and the poverty was unbelievable. Living this life and knowing I had experienced the poor streets of South Los Angeles helped me become the young lady I am today.…
The land of equal opportunity is not so equal for people from certain economic and social standings. Poor people are not criminals; however, many times, circumstances outside of one’s control force people into criminal activities. When one lives their life on a battlefield, they learn to do what they must in order to survive-- whether that means stealing in order to eat, selling drugs in order to make money, or being involved in a gang in order to survive. John Singleton’s Boyz n’ the Hood (1991) accurately shows how hard it is for a person to escape an impoverished lifestyle when they are born into poor circumstances. People who live in low income neighborhoods hold a strong resentment towards people who live more affluently due to want--…
The beginning of hip-hop has changed very drastically since it first began in the early nineteen seventy's. Hip-hop first started to thrive in the South Bronx of New York, which started to progressively develop as the years went by and new generations started to transform in the pop culture. When hip-hop first started, Africa America women were treated with much respect and were very professional in the way they presented themselves in front of the media. Unfortunately, new eras influence the people on what to wear and how to act towards specific types of groups. It wasn't always like this until the new evolution of music changed the way media portrayed African American women on a whole new scale.…
Compare and contrast There are a lot of similarities and differences between the different styles of music. The two styles of music that I am going to compare and contrast are rap and country. They are both very popular and common in todays society. They started off as cultural and traditional music, but has evolved into a new genre. Rap and country come from different eras.…
Hip hop is a cultural movement that began its journey during the early 1970s, among African American young children’s residing in the South Bronx in New York City. Afterwards, became popular outside of the African American community in the late 1980s and by the 2010s it became the most listened-to musical genre in the entire world. Furthermore, it consists of four fundamental elements, which represent the different manifestations of the culture: rap, turntablism, b-boying, and lastly graffiti art. The term hip hop is often used in a restrictive fashion as synonymous only with the oral practice of the rap music genre. The origin of the hip hop culture stems from the block parties of the Ghetto Brothers.…
Tricia Rose’s “The Hip Hop Wars” commences and entitles the first chapter as “Hip Hop Causes Violence.” Before furthering on with the chapter, one may intuitively develop a bias supposition that what is titled is based on an actual fact without having any valid evidence to prove why it is the way it is. Tricia Rose, whom is an author, a scholar, and a public speaker presented an argument stating “a key aspect of much of the criticism that has been leveled at hip hop is the claim that it glorifies, encourages, and thus causes violence (Hip Hop Wars, pg.34).” Although several critics may agree that hip hop promotes violence, Tricia Rose covers the significant aspects of the controversy whether hip-hop indeed causes violence.…
All rappers degrade black women and the people who support these corrupt rappers hate black women also. Jennifer Mclune’s “Hip-Hop’s Betrayal of Black Women” creates this biased inference within its readers after reading the text. Mclune is a writer, activist, and librarian that lives in Washington D.C. Her article, “Hip-Hop’s Betrayal of Black Women,” first appeared in an online magazine called Z Magazine in 2006. The story discusses how rappers feel that they have a privilege over women and they rap about it in their music.…
