Jason and Cynthia had been thinking about getting a divorce (Billingsley, 2009). Previously, Jason had suffered from testicular cancer, which had put a strain on the relationship (Billingsley, 2009). On top of that, the couple had been trying to have a child for several years and Cynthia was not able to conceive (Billingsley, 2009). After nine years of marriage, the couple started to question where they were both going in life, what they both wanted out of the relationship, and if the relationship was indeed the right fit (Billingsley, 2009).
