What makes this case unique was Keeney’s uncanny intuition about how to handle the Indian Shaman. The treatment used would not be found in any textbook. In fact, the treatment came to him in a vision! There is no science to this at all. The Shaman followed Keeney’s instructions to the letter and it produced great results. Not advocating that we all run out and take this approach but Keeney’s intuition helped in a way that was successful for this particular client. What’s more, are the intriguing events that transpired later, when another Indian came to Keeney with a problem. He dreamed of being confronted by warriors, and his face painted red. The man awoke with his face actually painted red! He was troubled by this and needed some advice from the white medicine man as Keeney was referred. This case just goes to show that the mind and spirit have far greater potential and depth than we like to

In the article “What Makes Marriage Work” Dr. John Gottman explores what factors are involved in a successful long lasting marriage, and how to minimize the factors that lead to divorce. Through using real life examples Gottman shows how in general arguments in relationships aren’t inherently bad, but to keep a relationship positive the amount of constructive interactions must greatly outweigh the quantity of destructive or negative interactions. To support this, a key idea of the article is the ratio of positive to negative interactions, or as stated “That magic ratio is 5 to 1. As family and couple therapy psychologist would put it, "two neurotics can be happily married,” (Ackerman, 1982). In the end, whether we believe or follow Gottmans study or not, we must understand there is so much more to making a relationship.…
