A quick internet search on the term “stratification” gives us the definition “the state of having many layers” and “the hierarchical or vertical division of society according to rank, caste, or class” or in this case, gender. For many years men were the sole breadwinners of each household. As this continues to change women have had to force their way into the public sphere and out of the housewife mold. Before these working woman began making their headway, all professional careers were for men. As time goes on career paths are opening up for women but we are far from achieving true employment equality. This is the definition of a sex-stratified labor market.
