Auntie Anne’s At Carolina Place Mall: Employees vs. Customers. A common thing many people in America do on the weekend is go to a mall. The mall is a place where both, parents and children, have the opportunity to shop, eat, and amuse themselves. Carolina Place Mall is a mall located in Pineville, North Carolina. This specific mall is not exactly the biggest mall in Charlotte, however, it does have a variety of clothing stores, specialty stores, and fast food restaurants. It is true that customers find Carolina Place to be a fun and interesting place, nevertheless the mall employees would disagree. People, customers, go to the mall and expect the best service regardless of how they treat the employees. Some people don’t understand that if …show more content…
There are also stores for different hobbies and fandoms. Customers can go and spend hours walking around and going into different stores and/or eating different foods. The busiest day at Carolina Place Mall is usually saturday because a lot of people in America do not work that day. Employees on the other hand spend the day working eight hour shifts, and locked away from the beautiful sunny days. Lily sees people walk by her job all day long and thinks to herself “I wish I had this day off so I could go out and do something fun. I know that I wouldn’t be here shopping if I were them”. She doesn’t understand what it is that the customers find so amusing about being locked away in a place for hours if there is so much to do outside those walls. People have no problem going into the same store three or four times to see the same things they have already seen. Lily can never make any plans on the weekends because she has to be at work, in contrast customers seem to enjoy being at the same place she dislikes so …show more content…
Customers see closing time as an open sky. They think “yes! We made it on time” or “Discounted/free food?!” Many people walk into a store five minutes before closing and that is something employees are not very fond of. Carolina Place closes at 9pm, however, employees start preparing for closing before 9 o’clock because they are tired and want to go home. Many customers do not care about the employee being tired or the fact that the store is about to close soon, in other words they just want to satisfy their needs regardless of other people’s. Once the clock hits 9pm the mall employees close their stores and try to finish the clean up process in order to go home. People will see the store locked, the gates down, the lights off etc. and will stay say “Are you guys closed?” Yes they are. The mall closes at 9pm, and there is absolutely no reason why there should still be people in the mall ten minutes after closing time. It is different at Lily’s job. They sell food not clothes and Lily’s boss demands that all cleaning must be done with the pretzels still in the warmer in case people try to buy some. So, while Lily and her coworkers are cleaning, after closing time, they still have to sell as much as they can. Customers will go to Auntie Anne’s and try to bargain with the employee for free pretzels. What annoys Lily the most is when people go at late

Charleston, South Carolina, the jewel of the south. A town that time has yet to permeate, where horse drawn carriages still serve as a mode of transportation, resulting in over 4.5 million visitors every year (“In Charleston, S.C., Resistance to Cruise Ships”). Charleston has used its charm to intrigue the world for decades, that's why for the past four years “Travel + Leisure (2014) has named the city a leading travel destination in the U.S. and Canada, and for the second conservative year, the city was ranked first in magazine’s poll” (William). On the store level, it seems that managers will do anything to make sure that the customer is right. If the customer was making a scene with…

Sammy describes how out of place the girls are by comparing them to the norms of the town and how the rest of the citizens and shoppers would act in an everyday situation: “What he meant was, our town is five miles from a beach, with a big summer colony out on the Point, but we’re right in the middle of town, and the women generally put on a shirt or shorts or something before they get out of the car into the street” (296). When the girls walk in, they catch the attention of all men in the store, which could be considered unacceptable back in the 1960s, especially seeing how the ladies were remarkably exposed. This brings diversity into the store that the shoppers, and Lengel do not…
