From our experience working as a team for the duration of the assessment, we found that effective communication and building consensus were the two most imperative factors that contributed to us performing effectively.
The team’s effectiveness was greatly attributed to successful communication between all members. Proper communication entails that shared information is received and understood in the way it was intended, which is crucial for high performance and achieving objectives. By establishing good communication, it resulted in us getting all the necessary information to each team member in regards to their responsibilities and quality of work, and additionally made it easy to set timelines and agree on collective goals. For the duration of the assessment we strived to establish a general agreement amongst all members by encouraging participation from each other and ensuring all members had a role to play in working towards the team goal. With all members participating we had access to a vast range of skills. As a result, we used individual strengths when allocating the workload. For example, Shelby had a strength in calculating decision trees so to optimize effectiveness she was allocated that piece of the assignment. Furthermore, due to each member’s active participation, we all had a say in relation to each aspect of the assignment by reviewing each other’s work which enabled constructive feedback. The process of giving and receiving effective feedback increased productivity and was crucial for improving the standard of our work.
3.2 Lessons Learned from Chairing Meetings
