Patterns Several patterns are evident in the microsystem. The staff is routinely interrupted in the course of a shift. The unit has an open concept nurse’s station which contributes to constant commotion. There are several phone lines on the unit that contribute to a noisy environment.
Metrics that Matter Quality information on falls with injuries, hospital acquired pressure ulcers, catheter associated urinary tract infections, and central line associated blood stream infections are readily available. The microsystem has had no injury related falls in the past year but a relative spike in falls in general was noted. The previous month of October the unit had seven falls without injuries. There were a total of 21 falls in 2014 and 24 falls in 2015 thus far (see Table 4). Other pertinent metrics include Clostridium difficile and Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus rates, and the microsystem is consistently under the organization’s benchmark. In regard to patient satisfaction, the overall microsytem rating is consistently in the ninety percentile (see Table 5). On the other hand, the hospital environment, cleanliness question, quietness question, medication communication, doctor communication and discharge information are steadily declining.
