Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper (2014) was produced at a time when both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars were settling down and it was time for the American audience to see a glimpse of life on the battlefield compared to at home. This film was produced during a lot of tension and divided America on whether America should have even fought the Iraqi war, and tension between the Veterans healthcare system. American Sniper was released almost a decade after the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom, which allowed the American audience to give it time and space for the tensions of the American public to somewhat subside. In the beginning of the war, the American people to politicians was highly contested of why we even were there with no smoking guns being found. American Sniper was a very emotional film that did a great job of both intense firefights to the home front. Over the last couple years, the VA system has been under a lot of scrutiny because of the amount of veterans not receiving the appropriate care needed after going through war time affects. The Scene where Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper) hears the screaming sound of his kid during a party runs out and almost kills his dog showed some of the psychological impacts that war has on the veterans. To this day, there are so many veterans that continue to battle the same psychological and mental issues but can’t get the treatment needed. The suicide rate is really high among war veterans because of this and American Sniper helped the American Culture understand what it’s like. The Iraq War is still a highly regarded subject of the 2016 Presidential debates.
