When it comes to the Korean culture, society as a whole expresses itself on a different scale than the FTLC. Korean people are generally more conservative than most Americans, they do not really show any public affection, so when learning the social norms this comes to play. When greeting someone, you bow to communicate the greeting instead of shaking hands. The KCC is also more about learning how to adapt into their society, which means using their norms is a big part of adapting. The FTLC is different, their way of expressing has more to do with how they speak and present themselves to the public. Teachers are seen as role models, so maintaining a professional appearance is one of their main priorities. Shaking hands is a necessary element to show professionalism, not shaking someone’s hand could potentially offend the other person or even give off a sense of unprofessionalism. Since I want to be an Elementary School Teacher, I have to learn how to make class fun and engaging by using many motions and emotions and still be able to have a professional appearance. The KCC is all about having fun while learning about a different culture in the process. When I’m with the other KCC members, we perform in a team environment to practice what we learn together. This club is mostly for leisure, I choose to be involve, so most of the time we spent we do not get penalized for it because things in that setting tend to be laid back and relaxed. On the contrary, the FTLC is more about getting serious and straight to the point while networking to gain experience at the same time. I tend to socialize less and concentrate more on working on firmly planting my roots right for my future career to grow properly, sure we have people in the same boat as us, but the atmosphere is different. We usually get together and bond solely for the purpose of networking for future opportunities. My mindset while in the FTLC is usually that there can only be one teacher as an outcome, teaching is a one person job so I must do what I can to stand out in the end because only one will get the
