The Legend of Amelia Earhart
Amelia Earhart was the first female pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, who later
on mysteriously disappeared on her flight over the Pacific Ocean. In modern day society, she is
known for her countless accomplishments and successes in the world of aeronautics. Amelia
Earhart wanted to prove to the people of her time that any woman could become a pilot, despite
their gender, and master all of the successes of aviation.
Amelia Mary Earhart was born on July 24th, 1987 and was the first of two daughters. She
grew up living with her grandparents in Atchison, Kansas, while her parents resided in Kansas
City. Amelia was very dedicated …show more content…
Her feat had increased the ‘prestige of her sex’...”.
Women envied Amelia for her immense amounts of bravery and the men also applauded her for
her successes and accomplishments.
Amelia Earhart’s success came from her huge amounts of bravery and ambitions. Amelia
proved to everyone that a woman could pursue aviation and she proved to men and women that
she could fly across the Atlantic alone. Amelia wanted to go on to prove that a woman could fly
solo not only across the Atlantic Ocean, but also over the Pacific Ocean. Since Amelia was so
ambitious and loved the thrill of adventure, of course she pursued it. In June of 1937, Amelia
took flight to travel over the Pacific Ocean. However, her flight was cut short when Earhart was
claimed to have disappeared. The radio signals from her plane were lost and rescue workers were
on the search to find her. Amelia Earhart was not to be found anywhere. It has been said that her
plane had either crashed or ran out of fuel and sank into the ocean, but it is just a myth. To this
day, nobody knows what ever happened to Amelia Earhart and nobody has ever found her body.
However, Amelia was declared to be dead on January 5th, 1939, at only 41 years old. …show more content…
People claimed that Amelia did not have the
correct flying skills, did not prep for her radio navigations, or she was just rushed and did not
focus on the task as a whole. Amelia took flight for the fun of it, and wanted to travel and go on
adventures just because she could. Her childhood trait of being reckless came into play in her
older years as well. “The Pacific Ocean makes no allowances for navigation errors. But perhaps
some recklessness is called for in all explorers. Courage and daring certainly are, and Amelia
blazed trails in her ‘shining adventures’ as she called them”. (214)
Amelia Earhart was famous because she was the first female pilot to ever fly solo across
the Atlantic Ocean. Her success and accomplishments were because of her gender because she
set many records for becoming the “first female” to ever accomplish a flight related activity.
Even though many people doubted her, she overcame those doubts and proved to people that
women can do what they set their minds to as long as they work hard for it. She wanted to prove
that women should have the equal opportunities that men have, and that women could even
