Aerie is a well known lingerie for women by American Eagle. Aerie first started in the year of 2006. This initiated a line of undergarments for women between the ages of 15-25. In early spring 2014, Aerie launched their newest campaign of the time, “Aerie Real”. The purpose behind this campaign was to discontinue using supermodels and digitally retouching its models to start encouraging self-body positivity. And through this abrupt change, “the company has shocked the fashion industry through their untouched photos of models” as stated by Cassidy Crawford, in the article Aerie Real Campaign: Body Positive or Body Shaming. This collection features a palette of different nude shade undergarments that complement a variety of women with different skin colors. Aerie’s advertising commercial, displays women out in the blazing hot desert walking in the newest nude collection of undergarments, as happy as they could be. The women in this commercial are an array of all shapes, sizes and skin colors. They ran so graciously through the desert and in between the red desert rocks with such big smiles. This commercial was filmed in a natural setting while these women were embracing their natural features just like nature does every single day. It is so great to see a company support women and make women feel good about the way they come in. As a teenager I struggled to show myself self love and more importantly accept myself the way I am. It took me a while to see that I didn’t have to be tall, have curves or a clear face to feel good about myself. I am so glad Aerie launched these commercials around the same time I was becoming a young lady and I was going through these thoughts. They help me boost my confidence and love every part of me. Seeing Aerie wanting to reach out to millions of teenage of girls and women, to love themselves and their bodies is such an important thing. Society makes women believe that we must be a certain way to be attractive. The media is always forcing their idea of the "perfect look" in our faces.
