Active Listening Analysis

I want to start off by sharing that I am aware that active listening is essential to working out conflict. While it is a weakness for myself as I struggle with active listening. I am a person that likes to multi-task, while having conversations or watching television, I find myself unable to maintain focus. This is a negative behavior that I condone especially since a part of active listening “is where you make a conscious effort to hear not only the words that another person is saying but, more importantly, try to understand the complete message being sent” (minds tools, 2016). Although, I have try to grasp that aspect of active listening a 100% of the time, I need to make sure all the information provided is understood. Having so much to do, prevents my mind from shutting down and actively listen to others. The other issue, I posses while in conflict, my mind tends to wonders, not so much to rebuttal but the thought that I am facing a conflict upsets me as I want to just do what is right by others whether it’s a family member, coworker or friend. …show more content…
After reading the Communication Skills Skills Training from MindTools.com (2016), I have gain some insight that there are five key active techniques to master active listening. Such as: 1. Provide the person speaking their undivided attention. 2. Demonstrate that their conversation is heard by responding to their words. Either, by making gestures or simple responses such yes, a huh, or really. 3. Remove personal biases or perceptions by providing feedback for clarity of what was said. 4.
