“on the rise” and can result in grave ramifications, such as being expelled from the university.
(Christakis, Erika, 2012) There are many things that count as cheating that you might not be familiar with. Get ready to learn what counts as academic dishonesty because it just might surprise you!
Cheating is a “decades-old trend” that is a major part of academic dishonesty. (Williams,
2015) Many things count as cheating. One thing that counts as cheating is using materials you are not allowed to on an exam. This means you should not use any materials, even a calculator, if it is not approved by your instructor. Even if you can use any materials, they should …show more content…
If any materials that you are not supposed use are visible while you are taking your test, then your instructor has the authority to accuse you of cheating. Also, if you are taking a take-home test and use your textbook you are committing an act of academic dishonesty. Another thing that counts as cheating is letting others cheat off of you. This can result in you and the person that you have helped being accused of academic dishonesty. Another act of academic dishonesty is an act called fabrication. This includes making up a false excuse of not turning in an assignment on time, lying about turning in an assignment that you did not turn in, and making up any false data, such as fake information from a citation that does not even state the information that you said it did. One person should not be doing all of the work, while the other or others take credit for the work that is not rightly belonging to them. Furthermore, altering your grades or academic records is a serious offence of academic dishonesty. Your professor for each course should be the only one to alter your grades for that course. Why not study and do your work instead of trying to alter your grades, which could lead to even worse grades?
Speaking of altering grades, you are also not allowed to bribe your instructor with anything of monetary value to give you more points on an assignment. One last offence of academic dishonesty is sabotage, “acting to prevent others from completing their work”.
