Gatorade commercials are not the type that “goes in one ear and out of the other”. This commercial uses specific tactics to lure the audience into purchasing their product. In this “Win from Within” commercial they present famous athletes exhibiting determination and the use of hard work while training. They play a memorable song while showing the different athletes as they physically drain themselves while executing their workout routines. In the end, they rapidly illustrate the various athletes re-energizing themselves with the Gatorade product. I believe that the commercial successfully sells their product when using well-known athletes, putting the audience in relatable situation, grabbing the audience’s attention, and using a catchy song in the mist of it all. One strategy Gatorade uses to reel viewers in is the use of star athletes consuming their products. In this ad, you can see professional sports players such as Derek Jeter, Cristiano Ronaldo and Dwayne Wade drinking the product in order to enhance their performance. From the beginning, Gatorade uses visuals portraying “hard work”. The first example is Dwayne Wade in the gym putting all of his effort into striving for improvement. The commercial shows athletes doing things individuals do on a daily basis but at a higher level. The advertisement glamorizes activities such as running, lifting weights, and playing organized sports. The video shows these activities being done in a way that portrays achievement, excessive strength and confidence and makes the audience feel like Gatorade helps them achieve these same goals as well.
