To answer my question I had to research how people did there makeup through the decades my aim though doing this research was to see how far we have come in makeup and if what we do now is similar to what people have done in the past. I conducted my research on line by using websites and picture. I used these methods of research because it is easily accessed and is easy to find the information I needed. I have written a blurb about what I think were the top trends in all the decades I researched.
In the 50s Pastels such as, pale pinks, greens, blues and yellows were very popular. The aim of makeup in this era was to look more feminine. Pinks, purple-reds, and orange-reds lips were the most common in the early 1950s Pale skin was popular, and pastel hues in powder. Delicacy was the goal for foundation. Most ladies would use foundation as a base for her makeup. It was common now to extend the natural border of your lips with lip liner, making a girl look more feminine. Pinks and Reds were the common. Orange-red lipsticks were big for blonde hair, redheads and other medium dark colours; and purple-red lipsticks for dark haired. The eye look of the 1950s was essentially minimal, with little eye-shadow applied. Mascara on the other-hand was everyone’s favourite. A soft but definite liner was then applied along the upper lash and softly swept out in an arch, opening up the eyes.
