Fashion In The Early 1900's

The history has changed dramatically in the past one hundred fifty years or so. The reason for only looking back at one hundred fifty years ago is because fashion and beauty wasn’t as big of a deal, for clothing was for necessity not for the latest fashion trend. Although the rich did have the time and money to look a certain way, the average person did not have those two key factors. In the early 1900’s was the real start to industrialism. There were also strikes for eight hour days, instead of working unreasonable hours, this extra time meant people were able to entertain themselves on other things. Like the way they looked. Women in the ancient greek is one of the farthest back that we can see a sense of style. Though the women from Sparta were forbidden from wearing makeup due to the belief that they possessed superior beauty. The hygiene and the fashion are not all that different from what we believe today as “new”. As the Roman Empire expanded, they adopted Greek customs including the cosmetics. Slaves worked as masseuse, hair stylist, and nail dresser.
Ancient China then adapted these customs, with living in a different environment with different customs, pale skin and white teeth was considered the beauty of the time which has stuck even till today. Although, the products have changed greatly in the fact that they use to make more organic and handmade products like powdered lead has been used to lighten complexion in China.They also first used rouge to redden and create images like flowers on their lips. Then the style changed to use black makeup on their lips.
