Because Clariant is a worldwide company with its headquarters in Switzerland with 110 operating companies in 53 countries around the world I feel as though it may have some risks with a product moving worldwide. When it comes to plastics there are a lot of different regulations that Clariant North America must comply with to be able to sell raw concentrate to its customers. Every country has their own set of rules and regulations that Clariant must keep up to date with around the globe. When offering a new product such as our Bio-Based material it could bring some potential risk of missed regulation. Before the Bio Based material is introduced to every country it must be approved by its respected means, if Clariant fails to pass every country’s standards that is a huge cut to Clariant’s Bio based roll out timeline. An example of the regulations that Clariant must comply with is the well-known FDA regulations for some products along with the European Plastics Regulation, the South American Mercosur Regulation, the Switzerland Ordinance, the Japan Hygienic Olefin and Styrene Plastics Association (JHOSPA) recommendations, and Chinese legislation (Cabot, 2016). Another potential risk that Clariant could encounter is the unknown of the product. Bio based material has been highly requested from customers but until the product launches and customers actually start to purchase the product it is hard to tell if it will be successful or not.
