There are so many animals without homes these days. They wind up in the pound, shelters (some of which are unfortunately kill shelters), and even without a roof over their head. They hope for a second chance, for someone to love them again, someone to bring joy to their lives just like they would the same for us. Each year 8 to 12 million dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens are euthanized because too many pets come into shelters and too few people to adopt. I encourage people to help control the overpopulation by adopting and spaying and neutering your pets.

These animals have been given up on, left on the side of the road, abandoned by their families, or simply because a new pet came into their lives. My friend Paige and her boyfriend of several years thought that they would never break up and ended up adopting a dog. Well they did break up and he didn’t want her and Paige couldn’t take the dog to her parents house, so they gave it to a shelter. They made sure she didn’t go to a no kill shelter but because that dog did nothing wrong, she was the one who was given up. I think couples should really consider everything before they bring a pet into the situation, it isn’t fair to the animal for your mistakes.
