Abstract for Michael Gladwell, "Troublemakers,"

Pit bulls are descended from bulldogs used in the nineteenth century for bull baiting and dogfighting. Pit bulls have been bred over the centuries for lower aggression with only some success. Most dogs will only fight if cornered and have no choice but to fight. Pit Bulls are different and will fight with little to no provocation. Pit Bulls are nocuous for biting. But not all Pit Bulls are dangerous, and most don’t bite. When we say Pit Bulls are dangerous we are making a generalization. Another word for generalization is stereotype and most people don’t think we should make policy decisions based on stereotypes. We don’t do racial profiling even though most terrorists are middle east and nether should similar things with Pit Bulls. A Pit Bull ban involves a category problem because there isn’t one single breed. How do you define what is the dangerous pit bull and what is the safe Pit Bulls? The Pit Bulls that attack are not the only ones to blame for most dog attack are caused in part by mistreatment by an owner.

You should make explicit connections among the different parts of your writing so that what you said one sentence sets up what is to come and is clearly informed by what has already been said. There are four ways to do this.
1 Transitions
For readers to follow your train of thought you must not only connect the sentences but also mark the kind of connection you have made. Transitions help you cross from one point to another in your text. They are usually at the start of the sentences, so your reader can tell where you are going with the sentences.
2 Pointing words
Another way is to use pointing words. A pointing word is a term, such as “this” or “that,” referring back something or someone mentioned earlier in the text.

One reason pit bulls should not be banned is that they are not that threatening. An example of this is that Pit-bull attacks are sometimes over reported by the media. Should Pit Bulls Be Banned? Pit bulls may be the most widely misunderstood breed of dog. Their reputation is one of brutality and ferocity, and assumptions are made for the entire breed based on the poor, misrepresented actions of a few canines. Allowing for a minority of pit bulls to speak for the entire breed is a concept in which Americans are well versed, often tolkenizing one on the behalf of many. Because of this tendency to allow for one to speak for an entire group or population, it is even more important that humans stop to address any bias that exists within them without a broader knowledge of an issue.…

Most myths regarding pit bulls are based in fear, and almost all of them are proven fallacies. Pit bulls are not the only breed of dog that can have negative, aggressive tendencies based on its upbringing and other circumstances, but certainly an attack on an animal or a person by a pit bull is much more likely to be reported on the news, resulting in the creation of a bad reputation for pit bulls everywhere. Unfortunately, it is this belief that has caused some areas to put out bans on the entire breed. Not until people realize that any animal, even a pit bull, can be a very gentle, kind-hearted partner for life simply by raising the animal in the correct way, will pit bulls finally be rid of the negative and unfair reputation surrounding their…

Think about it; who trains these dogs and why are people being bitten?…

The reason a lot of bad people used these dogs is because they 're so loyal and they want to please their owner, so if the owner says to do something or the dog is trained a certain way, it 's going to do it. This is another reason these dogs are feared . What a lot of people hear is that Pit Bulls are born and meant to be fighting dogs and because of all media these myths spread real quick, and then you have this breed that is being bred all around the world and used for the wrong things. Truth be told, this is not what Pits are meant for, according to “Pitbull Myths”, “This breed is routinely used for: obedience trialing, conformation showing, weight pull, Schutzhund (a German sport which requires dogs to perform in obedience, tracking and protection phases of a competition), agility, and have even been known to…
