Traced back the history, we can find that India became a colony by United Kingdom. So in that case, people are in dire straits. Orwell has mentioned a dog’s appearance to criticize colonialism’s brutality. The dog treated the prisoner friendly. This is a stark contrast between dog and warders. The dog had more feelings than the cold warders. This detail emphasize that all people are equal no matter who he is.
Next, I’d like to take a look at the prisoner’s unfair treatment. Throughout the essay it shows, that the prisoners are treated like animals. They lived in a ten feet cell like animal cages and the author’s description of the prisoner is ‘a puny wisp man’. So we can see that the adverse manner had towards to the prisoners, they suffered the inhuman treatment.
