Visualize a room full of eager, driven and energetic adolescent ladies preparing, setting up and anticipating among each other what the second half of their day will generate. Like a live wire the room is alive and buzzing with energy. The girls all have something in common, whether it’s a passion or an interest, it awakens them enough to want to share their time with like-minded adolescents in a social structured setting. According to Webster’s Dictionary Extracurricular activities is described as “not falling within the scope of a regular curriculum; specifically: of or relating to officially or semi officially approved and usually organized student activities (as athletics) connected with school and usually carrying no academic credit.” Some of the choices presented to students are swim, track, music, cooking, drama, journalism, dance, sports, robotics and debate team and they take place after school. There is a relationship between what our young girls partake in after school hours that can mold, pave and transform their future. During a critical time of brain development including cognitive, social and physical growth, the effects of supporting and allowing our young ladies to engage in extracurricular activities results in the ability to induct life changing habits.
