What are the 3 domains of signal processing? |
Amplitude, frequency & time |
Dynamic range |
Range of amplitude (Volume), soft to loud, that a specific device in the signal chain can handle, and/or the range of amplitude of the program youre recording. |
Signal processing |
Equalization, compression, echo/reverb |
Equalizers |
Alters the tonal balance of an audio signal. |
Compressors |
Reduce the dynamic range of a signal |
Echo/reverb |
Simulate acoustic environment & produce delay effects. |
Bass roll off/ low cut filter |
A filter w/i a mic or on a channel that reduces bass responce. ( generally at selected frequencies between 50hz & 200 hz). |
Amplitude |
Compression, limiting, gating |
Frequency |
Equalization, filtering, notch filtering, |
Time |
Reverberation, echo |
Line check |
Confirming connections & levels before production begins. |
Most sensitive frequency range of our hearing? |
Midrange or 1000 to 5000hz |
Gain controls |
Dont vary the amount of amplification of the signal eventhough they're called volume/gain controls. The amplifier is always at constant volume. Raising the fader decreases the amount of resistance to the signal. When faders are raised resistance is low & a great deal of the signal gets through. |
