What are the 3 domains of signal processing?

Amplitude, frequency & time

Dynamic range

Range of amplitude (Volume), soft to loud, that a specific device in the signal chain can handle, and/or the range of amplitude of the program youre recording.

Signal processing

Equalization, compression, echo/reverb

Equalizers

Alters the tonal balance of an audio signal.

Compressors

Reduce the dynamic range of a signal

Echo/reverb

Simulate acoustic environment & produce delay effects.

Bass roll off/ low cut filter

A filter w/i a mic or on a channel that reduces bass responce. ( generally at selected frequencies between 50hz & 200 hz).

Amplitude

Compression, limiting, gating

Frequency

Equalization, filtering, notch filtering,

Time

Reverberation, echo

Line check

Confirming connections & levels before production begins.

Most sensitive frequency range of our hearing?

Midrange or 1000 to 5000hz

Gain controls

Dont vary the amount of amplification of the signal eventhough they're called volume/gain controls. The amplifier is always at constant volume. Raising the fader decreases the amount of resistance to the signal.

When faders are raised resistance is low & a great deal of the signal gets through.
