Early House Music Analysis

Now that all the basic essentials technology wise has been identified and discussed, the anatomy of what exactly makes EDM, EDM must be explained. First off, much like any rock and roll song, there must be an ongoing backbeat. This beat sets the ‘mood’ of the piece. A faster backbeat will encourage the production of a high-energy song, such as house music, whilst a slow less elaborate backbeat will promote a low-intensity song which can build up progressively like trance or progressive house music (Wilson sayre, 2016). Like most music, if not every music style, EDM branches out into several other music genres. As mentioned, house, trance, and dubstep are extremely popular under the EDM bracket. Therefore, all three will be described. To start house music is a very broad umbrella, most people who think of EDM will automatically think of this subgenre. House music was created by African Americans, in Chicago, through the influence of the emerging disco music (Univieacat, 2016). However, this music was specifically designed to make those individuals who listening to it, dance. Furthermore, this music was rejected by white heterosexual Americans, as it was associated with people of color, such as Hispanic and black individuals, and was commonly showcased in gay clubs (Univieacat, 2016).
