What is leadership?

Leadership refers to the ability to influence people to achieve particular goals. In business, it is important because it involves the ability to set out a clear direction for staff providing a clear example, and delegating work to subordinates.

Explain an autocratic leader and the advantages and disadvantages they have.

Autocratic leaders do not trust their subordinate and are therefore unwilling to delegate power or decision-making. They use their position of authority to get their own way.

Pros: Quick decision-making is possible, which suit crisis situations.

Cons: Autocratic leaders are unlikely to be experts at everything and end up taking to much responsibility. Subordinates get frustrated by the lack of trust and involvement in decision making. Industrial relations problems are more likely to occur.
