Leadership plays a significant role in a manager. Although there are many more characteristics that are included when defining the purpose of a manager, being able to lead and control a group in a work enviroment is vital. It is true that leadership in managers is important, but there should be a mutual relationship between the managers and the employees. Effective followers also play an important role in any work force. In order to be an effective follower, there are five characteristics that an employee should always contain towards their leader: support, trustworthiness, courage, positivity and patience. It is known that in order to have a successful company, there must be a successful leader; it is unknown to many that a company must also be a successful group of followers.

Effective followers must contain support towards their leader. As a follower, it is their duty to show the leader that, no matter what decision is chosen for the sake of the company, there will be a group of followers behind the decision. An example of support: The team leader of a company that designs kitchens decides to raise prices of blue prints in order to pay for a new break room for the employees. There is always going to be opportuntities in a person 's life that will seem too good to be true. It is the followers responsibility to stay true and loyal to the company and the leader. An example of trustworthiness: There is a man who had just started working for a medical center. The man is a very effective employee. When offered the opportunity to present his skills at another company, the man politely denies the offer. This man is showing his trustworthiness towards the company by deciding to stay for the same company. This is allowing a leader to see what an employee 's true intentions
