CYCLE OF VIOLENCE

1. tension build up phase: abuser enjoys control and power. victim feels powerless and fear


2. precipitating event: abuser blames victim for provoking abuse


3. acute battering event: may last a few minutes to several days


4. immediate aftermath: abuser is frequently quiet & calm. victim immobilzed shock or fear


5. honeymoon phase: abuser is sorry. victim enjoys abusers attention
