We SYMBOLYZE conditional clues with arrows because they can only be read from left to right. Don't go against the arrow.
Don't go against the arrow
If X is chosen, Then Y is not chosen
Symbol; X -> -y
contrapositive; Y-> -X
The contrapositive is the only certain deduction that can be made from a conditional clue.
Note: flip the order of the statements and around the arrow negate each one.
First examine the clue from left to right; by examining the left hand statement, if it doesn't apply,there is nothing we can do or conclude.
conditional clue
If the left hand statement of a conditional clue applies, then we move from the left to the right following the arrow, which shows us the conclusion we're allowed to draw
conditional clue
If... then and its relatives
If X is in, Y is out.
Y is out if X is in.
Whenever X is in, Y must be out.
The Statement following the key word ("if," "all," etc) goes to the left of the arrow.
Only If:
X will be in only if Y is out.
Y will be in only if X is out.
Only if Y is out will X be in.

Also sometimes used: "only," "only when")
Draw an arrow pointing to the right through the word "only." The thing on the point of the arrow should also be o the point of the arrow in your diagram. Be careful with these; it is easy to reverse them by mistake.
X will not be in unless y is out
Y will not be in unless X is out
Cross out "unless' and write "if not," and then symbolize the clue as you would and ordinary "if...Then."
If F is chosen, then G or H must also be chosen.
This means that whenever F is in, we know that at least one of G or H is in, and possibly both of them are. It excludes both G and H being out.
Symbol; F->G or H
Contrapositive; -G and -H --> -F
When dealing with conditional clues that involve "or" and "and" the contrapositive of "or" is "and," and vice versa.
Conditional clues using "and" or "or."

POE
Place holder deductions allow you to make either/or deductions on in/out games. Very Strong
It normally tells you that no matter what like two elements can not coexist or one is in and one is out. Remember from left to right. What is the conclusion, don't go against the arrow.
When there is no space available on the "out" side, we can find elements that have to be in.
Deductions; and games that involve in/out task.

Note: Pay attention to elements that don't appear in placeholders.
Repeated Elements often provide the opportunity for deductions. If an element is listed in two or more clues, try to combine information to arrive at a new fact.
Deductions
Read the setup and clues for each of the first two games. Leave the one that looks worst last.
Order your Games
Do the clues look straightforward and familiar
Do everything in pencil, and don't erase your work.

work and write small-you will not be given much space to draw your diagram.

If a paticular symbol isn't working, or is even causing mistakes, stop using it. Try something else.
Game Technique
Do games over and over. If you had trouble with one, go back to it later, and try it again until you get it

Practice games only when your are able to give them your full attention.

Very important: Rework all the games you do (including the games in this chapter) at least once.

Always keep in mind which tyoes of games you're able to do most quickly. Look for those games and do them on the L-Sat
