1. few people would choose to work in a factory if they could own their own farm instead. 2. Factory workers were not willing to work for as low of wages in the u.s. as they were in britain. 3. The lower price of labor allowed Britain to produce goods less expensively making it hard for the u.s. to compete. 4. The inability to compete discouraged American investors from spending the money needed to build new factories and machinery
