When running a business, the people who are making the money for the business is receiving some kind of pay. Student athletes work for the NCAA and make millions of dollars but do not see a penny of it. They should be paid for all the hard work and dedication that they put in and when they are successful. Student athletes put in multiple hours for their school they are attending and should get something out of it. As the normal students are sleeping in the morning the student athletes are conditioning or working out with the coaches at practice to get ready for the long season ahead of them. It would not break the NCAA to just pay the athletes like a minimum wage part-time job or as much money as a student would make working in the library or the admissions office, since the players make their schools hundreds of thousands of dollars. Not paying the athletes is not just morally wrong but it may violate the law. Student athletes are not able get part-time jobs because there job is the sport they are playing. “Typical division one college football players devote 43.3 hours per week to practice, lifting, and games. That is 3.3 more hours more than an American work week.” (Mark Edelman) While the athletes are at their morning conditioning or lifting, the other students are sleeping or doing homework with the extra time they have. The athletes do not have this alone time to get things done. “It is hard having free-time when you have practices 2-3 times a day”(Tyson Hartnett). Having practice that many times a day could also take the players out of their classes. When they miss a day of class that is a day they are behind and once you are behind, with an athlete schedule it is hard to catch back up. The players can also miss classes when they go on road trips for games. Yes, the coaches do get the work from the professors for each player but it is not the same as being in class and being taught in a classroom environment. With them being behind the players can struggle on tests and could be close to failing the class
