Admire Personality Essay

Register to read the introduction… His easily agreed upon positive traits are that he is compassionate, friendly, courageous, nonchalant, and humorous. He is also brutally honest, stubborn, opinionated, and an over-exaggerator. Though some might call these ‘flaws’, I adore every single of his less than desirable personality traits as well. He is excessively honest, he will tell you that “you look like a hooker” or that “you are being a total asshole.” Most would be offended by his brutal honesty but I recognize it as more of concern for others well being. He does not want you to humiliate yourself and he will never lie to you. This makes him a very trustworthy person. He is the most stubborn man you will ever meet and he is very opinionated. He looks at all sides of a situation and then forms an opinion. Once he has made his decision, you will never change his mind. I think of this as loyalty, and I have the same ‘opinionated’ and ‘stubborn’ attitude myself. Although he never had an opportunity to go to college, he is well read and highly intelligent. He was an airplane mechanic, a job that takes great amounts of knowledge. Grandpa is a bit of an over exaggerator, I think he embellishes his stories for entertainment purposes. Grandpa’s Alzheimer’s causes him to be a bit delusional at times, which makes it hard to tell when he is telling the truth, when he is exaggerating for entertainment, or when what he is saying is a symptom of his disease.

While at first glance the characters, settings, and difficulties faced in Judith Guest’s Ordinary People seem mundane and commonplace, the novel’s subtext, about a psychological battle against the self, transforms this “ordinary” WASP family into an extraordinary family in despair. Conrad, the protagonist, and son of Beth and Calvin, returns from the hospital and prepares for his first day of school since his suicide attempt, which was fueled by his immense guilt over the death of his brother, Buck. While preparing breakfast for everyone, Beth comments on Conrad's clothes, stating to Calvin, “Decency is out, chaos is in”. This quote illustrates the terribile relationship between Beth and Conrad, while additionally foreshadowing Conrad’s…

The results of my personality inventory indicate that I have a Type A personality (350 out of 380). Type A personalities are often impatient, have difficulty relaxing, and are competitive (Gray-Stanley, 2009). My impatience is evident when I take my dogs out for their bathroom breaks. As dogs will do, they sniff every bush in the yard before urinating and I find myself scolding them for being too slow. In addition, relaxation is not part of my vocabulary at this time as I constantly feel the need to complete homework or study for a test.…

In the 1900s, personality theorists–in particular, Freud, Jung, Adler, Erikson, Allport, Cattell & Eysenk, Skinner, Bandura and Mischel, Rogers and Maslow, and May–did research and experimentation to understand human personality and made some insightful discoveries that give different lenses, or perspectives, through which people can understand themselves and their behavior. This paper identifies a specific personal characteristic (i.e., a behavior or mental process) of mine that I believe sets me apart from the majority of other people and then, through the viewpoint of each theorist mentioned above, explains how I acquired or maintained it. The special behavior is my tendency to get restless (antsy, hyper) and unable to relax for very…

Imagine a town that is small enough that people know each other very well, but also is big enough to keep meeting new people. My hometown of Cary, Illinois is a very inviting place where people are friendly to new members of the community and also keep close relationships with community members as well. I believe this small community has allowed me to really be myself and be confident that I will find people and friends who like me for who I am. My hometown of Cary Illinois has a population of about 17,965 as of this year (2017), which may seem very large or very small compared to how some people grew up. The Trait Approach Another common way to study personality is through the lens of the trait approach. The trait approach focuses on the measurement of individual differences of both personality and behavior within each person (Funder, 2013). This approach attempts to assess how people differ, and how each individual is unique. To measure this, researchers often use personality assessments in order to understand what traits are common within a person, and how those traits, or absence of such traits, impact that person’s behavior. A popular personality assessment used is the “Big Five”, which are factor analytically derived dimensions of personality (Funder, 2013).…
