How Is Atticus Finch Brave

Improved Essays
Who do you think the best person in Maycomb is? Well it is Atticus. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Atticus finch is kind, brave and fair. He is always fair with people no matter what color there skin is. He is fair to his kids and to the people of Maycomb. Along with being fair he is also kind. He doesn't see a reason to put people down. Rather he brings them up. He always thinks in a positive way and rarely in a negative way. He is also brave because he defends a black man in court. White people do not like that. He is willing to take all the hate just to make a black man win in court.

First, i think that Atticus is fair. He will fight for a black man in court and will give him a fair chance at winning. He is fair to the townspeople and his own children. He trusts his children with most stuff. He made them go back and read to Mrs.Dubose after they destroyed her bushes. My quote is “Nigger lover is just one of those terms that don't mean anything, like snot nose. Its hard to explain, ignorant trashy people use it when they think somebody's favoring negroes over themselves.”(Lee 107) This is a useable quote for this paragraph because to explains how only people who want to put other people down use the word. It explains that he is a fair man and wont put someone down from the way they look, act, or the way they do something.

He always listens to his children and what they have to say. He really cares about them. He is nice and caring to Tom Robinson even thought he is black and is crippled. The people of Maycomb think he is kind and nice. My quote is “When a child asks you something, answer him, for goodness sake. But don't make a production of it.” He is kindly saying that you should be kind to people and answer their questions. Just because they are a child doesn't mean they don't need to have their questions

It was known that Tom had a mangled left arm and had no purpose in doing the accused crime, but in the end racism won, over and the court 's decision was guilty purely based on skin color.…

Atticus, in contrast to many other characters in the novel, does not accept the institutionalized racism that is entrenched into Maycombian society. Instead, he fights racial prejudice because he views it as fundamentally flawed and stemming from a lack of empathy and understanding for those outside one’s social group. Furthermore, Atticus’ emotional investment in Tom Robinson’s case shows the personal level on which racism affects him. When discussing with Scout why he was defending Tom Robinson, Atticus explained, “… every lawyer gets a case at least once in his life that affects him personally. This one’s mine, I guess.”…
