1. Introduction: Hemispatial neglect refers to when brain damage results with problems in motor and sensory skills1-3. When a person has hemispatial neglect, he or she cannot “orient to, respond to, or detect stimuli” appearing on the opposite of the brain injury or wound1-3. Patients suffering from stroke also commonly develop hemispatial neglect as a result. About seventy five percent of patients with acute stroke face with various symptoms of hemispatial neglect especially after having a right hemisphere stroke5. Hemispatial neglect is found in thirty percents of patients faced with acute stroke and about two percent of patients face with chronic hemispatial neglect2.

For this, several hemispatial neglect patients took an MRI, NIHSS test, and hemispatial neglect test on the first day. Hillis, Wityk, Barker, et al found that the NIHSS test was not a good indicator for the stroke and that hemispatial neglect would be a better indicator for the stroke. This indicates a better way to measure nondominant ischemic stroke6.
4. Hemispatial Neglect between Different Genders Hemispatial neglect was once thought to be more prevalent in men because men and women have different cognitive task performance3. Kleinman, Gottesman, Davis, et al examined whether hemispatial neglect was more common in men than women. They collected data from three hundred and twelve patients from 1990 to 2006, then administered various tests determining hemispatial neglect on these patients, using subtests of the behavioral inattention test. Error rates were used to score the patients, and finally then used a chi-squared test and t-test to compare hemispatial neglect between men and women. Incidence and severity of hemispatial neglect on patients were found to be the same. However, different results may appear if computers were used to test time and performance of patients on the tests indicating a need for more studies to be done on hemispatial neglect in order to confirm that men and women have same incidence and severity of hemispatial neglect3.
5. Treatment Many experiments were done to find better treatment for hemispatial neglect
