It is important to tell people that hard work is more important than genetics. This causes positive changes in the brain and may make people more willing to try harder. If told that intelligence is only based in genetics, people lose the motivation and interest to improve. It’s been studied that giving people messages that encourage learning and motivation promotes an efficient performance. (Michigan State, 2014) people are not likely to work harder and there are changes in the brain that makes the person more willing to acquire success. The human brain is very receptive to that message that intelligence comes from the environment which entail positives outcomes. Children’s learning and motivations increases thus showing more efficient performance in test scores. (Michigan State, 2014) In research done by a psychologist in Stanford university, said “ that as tasks became harder for elementary students who were praised for their intelligence, telling them “you’re so smart” later on performed worse after their mistakes than those who were praised for their effort by saying “you worked really hard” and hearing that effort counts no matter what.” (Michigan State, 2014) These subtle messages have a big and fast impact on a developing brain. This entails that the brain can alter itself based on the information received and changes the person’s …show more content…
Parental guidance based on a child 's strengths and children having the support to explore and expand their likes are more likely able to succeed in a way that makes them happy. (Southern Methodist, 2010) New studies are able to show that the way the child turns out has a lot to do with the daily decisions parents make trying to guide the child’s growth. Parental guidance is important in how a child develops. A parent can observe their kids’ genetic characteristics and in result cultivate their strengths thus protecting them and preventing a child ending up a criminal. Parents can help by modeling and being supportive, encouraging but not being selfish in that they need to focus on what the kid wants for themselves as goals and future careers. Families should consider negotiating, accepting, and rejecting certain trajectories. (Southern Methodist, 2010) People should keep in mind a family’s culture, income and family resources and the relationships between parent and child can change how a positive trajectory develops. Therefore, it is known that schooling and intelligence interact in high levels. But also genes and experience come together to build on the intelligence. It is up to an individual what they do with it and if they have enough grit and motivation to achieve
