Wills father, whom he had troubling conflict with, set high expectations for him. Whereas, his mother, was more loving and easygoing. Despite very average grades throughout school, he was very well spoken and highly knowledgeable. Will would eventually drop out of school to pursue his career of being a cowboy. He traveled south, 1902 through 1903, to South Africa with “Texas Jack’s Wild West Show,” where he played the role of “The Cherokee Kid,” and performed unique roping tricks as a part of his act (BIOGRAPHY). Will also traveled to many other places including Australia and New Zealand, sharing his great roping skills with the world. In the United States, he was featured at the World’s Fairs in both St. Louis and New York City (BIOGRAPHY). Well recognized American theatre manager, Willie Hammerstein, was impressed by his talented and proceeded to sign him for his theatre acts. He wrote close to 4,000 syndicated columns and six books, and became a well-regarded radio broadcaster and political analysis (BIOGRAPHY). Will grew an extra interest in politics and referred to the subject as “the best show in the world,” and even described congress as the “national joke factory.” (BIOGRAPHY) His great humor and honest, complete, and intelligent observations regarding the government would soon earn the respect and admiration of the United States people (BIOGRAPHY). Soon enough, Will received many nominations of his own. He declined a nomination to be governor of Oklahoma and even became a “honorary mayor,” of Beverly Hills in 1925 (BIOGRAPHY). In the 1928 election, Life magazine formed the “Anti Bunk Party,” in the hope that their presidential nominee would not talk any nonsense, or as they referred to it as, “bunk.” (BIOGRAPHY) Will Rogers, promised that if he won, he would resign. Then, he wrote his observations on the election in Life and became one of the country’s leading opinionated leaders (BIOGRAPHY). Because of this, Will became a well-recognized and beloved, powerful political leader and continued to amaze his country.
