Topic: Why Do People Stutter
Specific Purpose Statement: At the end of my speech, people will understand a few reasons why people stutter, the different types of stuttering, and therapies to help people deal with having a stutter.
INTRODUCTION
Attention Getter: You may not believe me, but what if I told you that I belong to the 2 percent. That’s 3 million people in the United States. First off, I will tell you alittle bit about why people stutter. While there is no known cause, there are some interesting theories.
Second, I will explain to you that not all stuttering is the same, there are actually 3 different types of “vocal blocks” that cause someone to stutter.
And lastly, while there is no cure for stuttering, there are several different therapies used to help people overcome this speech impediment.
