As kids we were taught and bred not to tell a lie. We were essentially shunned away from telling a lie. Now in today’s society and the world we are telling lies from left and right. Why is it that we were bred not to tell a lie, but then as we grow up we drift away from that lesson? Many can say that we are basically cowards who hide behind our lies. Today there also exist, what is called as a white lie which states that you are telling a lie to help someone or even lift their spirits up. But isn’t that essentially lying? Why do we teach our kids who are the children of the future that lying is bad when adults do it all the time from lying to telling a white lie? In the quote by Nancy Farmer she states, “Any rats in a sewer can lie. It’s how rats are. It’s what makes them rats. But a human doesn’t run or hide in a dark place, because he’s something more. Lying is the most personal act of cowardice there is” From the quote I agree and disagree with the quote, lying is very unpleasant to others who are receiving them, it could also be seen as a personal act of cowardice just like the quote states. Where I disagree is the fact that there is a white lie in today’s society and instead of being unpleasant and seen as a personal act of cowardice, it is actually quite the opposite, it can actually help the person that is receiving the lie. Getting told a lie is a very unpleasant feeling for some while for others, they have a stronger mentality and can withstand being told a lie.…
