Why College Should be Free for Everyone
One of the things people think of when they think about college is the cost of attending. Many people I know, peers and parents alike, are going or have gone to college with the intention of using loans to attain the ultimate goal, their degree. If America is so progressive, then why hasn’t the cost of college been lowered instead of going up yearly? College should not force people to go into debt for the majority of their lives to get a degree. This may seem unrealistic to a lot of people. It also may seem unfair to those students who have paid for college, not just through monetary assistance like grants and scholarships, but also their mental energy as they figured how they were going to pay back extra loans they had to take out to pay a university 's extra fees. The United States may have given a plethora of freedoms, but one of those freedoms, higher education, can be seen as unimportant to many people if they don’t have the money to pay for it. College should be free for public universities across America because it will allow people the opportunity to have better employment opportunities, while also increasing the amount of people going to college.
One of the reasons why college should be free for public universities is to decrease the amount of college debt. Statistics found on Lendedu.com found that borrowers have an average debt of $28,400, and that 60% of college graduates are in debt in 2016. It also showed that the total…
