According to Keith Ellison, the author of “The Argument for Tuition- Free College” he says that the federal government should increase funding to states to fund colleges if states cap their tuition. The increase in funding would come from the billions of dollars that are currently given to Wall Street and oil companies. While I do not believe that college tuition should be free, I say students should be able to pay for their entire year of college if they had a full-time job throughout the summer. This would require students to be committed to their education year around, but would allow for students to graduate with minimal or no debt. If a student could pay for an entire year’s tuition with a summer job, that would eliminate the need for almost all student loans. Some loans may be needed occasionally to cover in the case of unexpected costs or graduate tuition. I also believe that all college loans should be appointed by the government and unsubsidized until five years after graduation. I do not think it is right for interest to be charged on federal loans while a student is in college, and they should also be given a grace period to get their feet under them.
