An abundance of children are improperly strapped into their car seats or are not in the appropriate seats each time they ride in a car. The reason why children are not fastened properly in their car seat is simply because the majority of parents or caregivers do not know the appropriate safety precautions. Due to this lack of attentiveness children are unwillingly risking their lives. Sadly, a tremendous amount of children are even losing their lives. This problem needs to be addressed for the sake of younger children who are not aware of the danger they are in. Fortunately, there are ways to prevent this issue to properly secure and provide safety of these innocent children. People who are responsible for the child think they know the proper safety precautions when unfortunately, they don’t. Child passenger safety statistics state, “96 percent of parents and caregivers believe their child safety seats are installed correctly, research shows that seven out of ten children are improperly restrained” (par.3). It is proven that in the United States alone, car accidents are the most fatal in younger children over the age of three, and are accountable for over 179,000 visits to the emergency room each year with serious injuries (par.3). It is safe to conclude that children who are not in the proper car seat or not properly restrained have hardly any chance of surviving a car crash.
