Life is a Struggle Anne Bradstreet was a Puritan that struggles like many ours. The struggle was about the love and desire of things versus their faith and service to God. In the analysis of this poem it is important that we look at what and how she tells the story in poem. Life is truly a struggle; however the struggle is more difficult without your faith.…
I can passionately and adamantly tell you that Nathaniel Hawthorne has a God given talent of prolonging a story that could be told in five chapters or less. In reading The Scarlet Letter I have developed grey hair, a dislike for words such as ignominy and sagacious and intense abdominal pain. On the other hand, The Scarlet Letter didn’t totally set me off of literature written before the 1900’s; I’ll give it another try in 40 years or so. Yet, on a serious note Nathaniel Hawthorne was able to create a beautiful yet tragic story. When creating this famous piece of literature his attention to detail, use of foreshadowing, as well as symbolism brought the conflicts, theme and characters to life.…
Symbolism is extremely prominent in Rosemary’s Baby. Symbolism is used to enhance the readers knowledge of what is happening and to give the story a certain twist of action. The symbol of Tannis Root is hinted throughout the whole story when Rosemary and Guy move into the Bram. Tannis Root is especially noted when Rosemary is pregnant and when the Castevets insist she see their good friend, Dr. Abraham Sapirstein, who says that Minnie will make Rosemary a daily drink which is more healthful than the usual vitamin pills. That drink contained Tannis Root.…

Throughout the short graphic novel, the reader is introduced to the narrator’s childhood through a series of flashbacks. In the graphic novel these memories are playing a part in the author’s inability to progress in her life, a concept that this essay will go more in depth in the coming paragraphs. One of the narrators more telling flashbacks that reinforces this claim, that past memories govern current behavior, is a memory the narrator has of her father. In the closing pages of the chapter the audience is shown a group of pictures of the narrator as a baby. The narrator then puts them in order, based on her interpretation of the context of what she think happened.…
Meshes of Afternoon (1943), a film by Maya Deren, illustrates the subconscious mind thought process through the method of dreaming. With that, she also provides us with much cinematic language equal to that found in literature. The repetitive tasks reveal her unconscious want to address her relationship with a mysterious figure who I later assume is the man. She reintroduces the knife, key, and flower into each dream cycle to show us the meaning of these objects as well as their significance. In literature, repetition provides a means to gain special emphasis on the point you are trying to covey, which revolves around her relationship with this man.…
The changing of the weather, the once joyful elements of a winter now gone. It then spirals into a domestic dispute between the wife and mother and father over the custody of their child.…
