The thing is people never hear about an African American cop shooting a white person because the only person who can be racist is a white person. African Americans aren 't racist, it can only be white people according to African Americans. Every white cop who kills someone of the African American culture is racist. When a officer shoots a white person no one says anything about it, it was just a bad person who got shot by the cops. But when it is the other way around and a white cop kills a African American person people are all over the cops and rioting. It doesn 't matter who the person is, if they are doing something illegal and makes a move that is life threatening to the cop, the cop will take action to protect themselves. Many things influence the public opinion of law enforcement including; job approval, officer demeanor, media, and the public 's contact with officers. The approval of the community is what gives officers their right to protect and serve them. Although some officers may not be upright and honorable people, many are forthright and honorable. When the media portrays officers of the law in any way, people in any community will assume that is what the law enforcement in their community is like even if the media took footage out of context and skewed the view. In today 's society everyone hates the police when they 're in trouble but they scrutinize officers when they are in need and the officer is not there at a moment 's notice…

So many people have centred the police officer profession with the bad eggs that appear in almost every job. Just about every job that you will look at, all has those select few that bring shame to the profession. I have heard almost every stereotype given to police officer, a few of them really get under my skin. All cops are bad, they are all trigger happy, and cops couldn’t care less about the people they swore to protect. Stereotypes are one thing they teach officers in the academy not to practice.…

The driver repeated his identity several times until the officer pulled out his gun and pointed it in the driver’s face. African American officials were infuriated with the incident and the media continued to cover the story for an additional two months after the incident. The test subjects went over the stories in this time period, both the police reports and the media articles, and were then asked to express their thoughts of police racial profiling. African Americans and other non-Caucasians believed racial profiling to be more widespread than that of Caucasians; however, after more information on the event was made available, beliefs about profiling decreased in all ethnic groups (Graziano, Martin, & Schuck, 2010). Another study was conducted in order to determine the public’s perception of police misconduct.…

The media is a huge factor in why people have such a bad perception of police officers. A police officer of 16 years on debate.org says, “Good cops do not make headlines. No one wants to read or hear about the officer who, with no protection, went into a burning house or worked on a burning car to save a person he/she didn 't know.” They only tell the bad stories about them. It only takes a hand full of officers that abuse their power, to give all cops a bad name.…

Being a police officer comes with great responsibilities. They are expected to maintain law and order, protect the lives of citizens, reduce fear of crime and most importantly prevent crime. But in the past few years, it seems as if they’re the ones putting fellow citizens in fear. Police brutality isn’t a topic you frequently hear about, but the times we do it’s nothing short of a serious problem. I’m not sure if it’s to do with race or just about the law enforcement agencies believing they can abuse the power that is a privilege to them.…

I recently had a workshop on police brutality and there were many instances where several statistics about police shootings, specifically of minority groups, were shown. It was shown that less than one percent of all police shootings are reported whether it was justified or unjustified. Furthermore, police officers have taken the lives of over five hundred black people already this year and reports are predicting many more deaths based on this ongoing trend. As can be seen, the news stations do not seem to care about the lives of black people. The fact that for some apparent reason, most likely racism and or discrimination, the new stations feel the need to not report on the killings of black people just demonstrates how racism is still amongst our society and will presumably continue to thrive for decades to…
