Police brutality is a globally controversial matter that has swept the entire nation. According to the Daily News, the statistics of police brutality in New York was the highest and at least 179 people have been killed by NYPD in the last 15 years and only two have been indicted (N.A). It has given bad reputations to cops all around good or bad due to some of the excessive force or actions used when retaining a suspect. It’s awful how people are killed by those who job is to protect the citizens, but instead they are now considered the bad guys. Once in the courtroom the suspect has no justice, but the police officer is able to go free, inevitably leaving that family desperate. According to the cops, they are the victims, and believe they have every right to use as much force because for them they must win the fight. It also shows that there are some good, responsible leaders that care for the welfare of the entire country, and doesn’t want to see it burn to pieces due to something that could have been prevented. The solutions the leaders gave were decent. They explained how having diversity inside of the police departments could help suppress police brutality, having officers patrol where they reside. Having diversity in the police department is a good idea because the community is not faced with the same people every day, and police will be able to relate because they are interacting with different people and races.
