There are numerous factors that determine the quality and safety of patients across the continuum of care. Shi (2012) identifies that “ease of access, the clinical quality of care, interpersonal aspects of care, continuity, and coordination all are important aspects of are, continuity, and coordination all are important elements to consider when assessing primary care quality” (p. 9). Factors that hinder ease of access for patients include primary care physician (PCP) hours of operation, office wait times, transportation to appointment, and flexibility in choosing a PCP.
