Crisis Prevention and Intervention Professional counselors are often on the front line of crisis prevention and intervention. In addition, the code of ethics that guide the profession include specific standards that guide this work. After reviewing the ACA code of ethics there are tons of ethical standards that could apply to crisis prevention and intervention, however the most important ones include:

This ethical stand simply believes in protecting and promoting the clients well-being of a client.
• A.1.d. Support Network Involvement
Supporting and involving natural supports through the therapeutic process
• A.2.b. Types of Information Needed
Keeping opening communication with all clients and providing them with information regarding counseling treatment plan and goals.
• A.7.b. Confidentiality and Advocacy
Receiving consent and advocating on behalf of the clients served
• A.11.c. Appropriate Termination
Termination is allowed when client no longer needs counseling or in jeopardy of harm

It’s unfortunate that so many people have dealt with or will deal with some type of trauma throughout their life. This course has provided some essential information and techniques on ways to support these clients. Personally I think crisis counseling if a difficult specialty. Counselors have to be emotional strong and they provide support to clients. Its evident that crisis counseling is implemented to help clients adjust to their feeling of hopelessness and gain the feeling of awareness. It’s important for counselors to encourage clients to speak about their situation and how they are worried about it effecting their life. During crisis counseling we can encourage them to talk to their family and friends about their worries. Also, we can teach them techniques they can use when they are stressed and help them set short term
