In the early 1980s, Congress made a further commitment to identifying and implementing solutions to child abuse (Myers 2008). The 1980s is called the period of significant expansion of public awareness (Myers 2008). Since this happened, there were more congress and state officials involved passing laws for the child’s protections. They began to create and educate parents and to do support programs to try to prevent problems (Child Enrichment). Many of the programs that are to contribute to preventing child abuse but they are divided into three basic levels (Popple 2008). The first level is primary or universal prevention activities that its main goal is to prevent or stop the abuse by having the general population knowing about it (Popple 2008). For example having a public service announcement to be shown on television or radio even having posters posted in public places. These announcements are shown mostly when it is The Child Abuse Prevention month in April (Goldman 2003) The second level of prevention is to do activities or educate the parent on all of the problems that not only the child will get affected in but also the parents (DuBois 2008). Some of the samples are to provide programs for the parent and child, or if the parent has a type of addiction to a substance they will try to provide help (Goldman 2003). The last level of prevention is to help the victim after he or she was abused. By trying to minimize the trauma in order for the victim does not have long term effects once they grow up (Popple 2008). There are large amounts of programs and organizations that are willing to help all of these are in different levels of prevention. One of the organizations is Don’t Shake the Baby
