According to the National Library of Medicine, “A report of child abuse happens every ten seconds, and five children die each day from child abuse” (NLM). Statistics say that most children who die from abuse are under the age of three years old. It is said that children are most often physically abused by someone they love or are afraid of so they do not tell any one. There are several forms of child abuse. As stated by the National Library of Medicine, “Other types of child abuse include, neglect and emotional abuse, sexual abuse, and shaken baby syndrome” (NLM). Physical abuse in children can happen to a child of any religion, race, or background. A few of the most common signs that a child is being abused are, sudden change in behavior, acting out, refusing to go home or not wanting to go home, and fear when approached by an adult. Along with warning signs in children , there are signs to watch for that could possibly indicate that an adult is abusing a child. These include, but are not limited to, the adult talking about the child in a negative way, uses harsh discipline, was abused as a child, high stress, and does not appropriately look after the child.
