Steal Like And Artist: An Analysis

“We travel because we need to because distance and difference are the secret tonics to creativity. When we get home, home is still the same, but something in our minds has changed, and that changes everything.” ~ (Steal Like and artist, pg. 93). I think that we all need creativity in life and this quote is a way to find it. I could not agree more with this quote. Being away from home is definitely something that transforms mindset, a change having seen more of the world and learned more about our own selves while being away from home. It can be hard to directly measure what we have gained through our journey, but somewhere deep within it is felt more than words can describe. It’s strange being away from home. But 2 years ago, I was sitting at home on Christmas night wishing I was somewhere else. And by the summer of 2014, my wish came true. I decided that I needed to leave not only my home but my country to pursue my ambitions. I left friends, family, my home and my life for the chance to roam the world and make deeper connections. I left home, but home never left my heart. I knew I had to leave, because if I stayed where I was, crime and a dark future were awaiting me. Going to school was never in my plans and getting a career seemed to be a dumb dream. I lived in a village, where farming and working in the fields was a job I started doing since I was 7 years old and it will probably be the job I’ll be doing now if I had stayed. I came here looking for a better life, for everything I had always dreamed

Living and growing up in the Rio Grande Valley, I always knew leaving home would offer me the biggest opportunity for success. Home offers many great things like familiarity, but that is what I’m trying to leave behind. We grow up in small towns where we are all alike. One way my life has changed because of missing home is I rely on myself more now. When I miss home, I remember how spoiled child I was, like I was expecting other people to do what I’m supposed to do and that made me feel I have to change the way I live now. For example, when I was in my country I didn’t know how to cook anything, I was expect others do that for me. Also before I came here I didn’t know how to do laundry at all, why should I when I know that someone else will do it for me. I have never worked in a real job back then, even though many students in my country have a job.…

When I was a kid what I desired the most was to have a united family. I used to talk with my dad almost every day to ask him how he was doing and to tell him how I had spent the day at school. My dad’s absence during my infancy was not highly notorious thanks that my mom and my grandfather whom did my dad’s job during his effort for giving me a better life, but even though…
