    a. The decentralization that occurred under the Articles of Confederation evoked an issue concerning taxation, specifically when the Revolutionary War occurred and the federal government needed taxpayer money to support war efforts. Since the federal government delegated all taxing authority to individual states, it was unlikely that the states would yield to Congress when they requested tax money because there was no law forcing them to do so. However, the centralization of the Constitution provided a solution to this; in Section 8 of the Constitution, it is stated that Congress shall have the authority to impose and collect taxes. Further, the decentralization under the Articles of Confederation brought about an issue regarding the development…

I Casey Nichols representative of North Carolina fully support the long overdue ratification of the Constitution. The Articles Of Confederation are impuissant and short-lived. An continued absence of a new document that conclusively clarifies our affairs will inevitably lead us to defeat. It was unquestionably imperative that we held the constitutional convention. The rationale is quite evident considering all the affairs we don't have elucidations for.…

The ideas and events that led to the belief that the Articles of Confederation was not working well (was because Congress had no power to regulate trade, coin money, collect taxes, or establish a military.) The Articles of Confederation was established to create the national government of the United States after the declaring independence from Great Britain. The purpose of creating the Articles of Confederation was to guarantee states of not “surrendering their sovereignty powers,” freedom, and independence (Davidson p. 152). The Articles of Confederation failed to regulate trade “Wit the outbreak of the Revolution, Americans had suffered an immediate loss of the manufactured goods, markets, and credit that Britain had formerly supplied,” (Davidson…

Constitution is superior to the Articles of Confederation because it enforced an efficient balance of power that allowed the national government more power. According to “Excerpts from the United States Constitution (Primary Source)”, the text states,”The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defense and general Welfare of the United States…” This excerpt is from the Constitution itself, therefore proving that the Constitution enforced a more efficient government. A prominent reason why the Articles of Confederation were proven faulty was because the states were not paying the taxes that were mandatory to the success of the country. As a result of the states having more power, they could easily refuse the pleas of the national government, resulting in a failed economy.…

The Articles of Federation left most regulation to individual states and much like the issue that arose with trade, the minting of currency and a regulation of currency was left to each state. This meant that each state could mint or produce different denominations of value for their “state” dollars and coinage. Because there were many discrepancies in money and their respective values, many problems soon would arise in the Confederation such as, inflation, parties not accepting each other’s money because it was not considered “legal” tender, and to the loss of property because of non-payment. The new government that was to be formed in the wake of the Confederation would attempt to resolve this issue by granting the Congress the ability,…

The Articles of Confederation marked the death of the 13 Colonies and the birth of the United States of America, a country of it’s own after fighting with a superpower for so long. After being controlled and constrained by Britain for centuries, the now-Americans were afraid of the government becoming a second Britain. The new American government drafted the Articles of Confederation in 1777, the first law of their new country, and to avoid creating another restrictive government, the Articles were extremely limited federally and failed to provide a strong government in terms of economics, law enforcement, and government. These issues can be shown by just a few of the restraints on the federal government: the inability to print national currency,…

The History of the Constitutional Convention In 1787, Congress realized that states governing themselves would leave the nation powerless when faced with another war. The United States had adopted the Articles of Confederation a decade prior, but the system wasn’t working. Each state was able to govern itself, and they didn’t have to abide by any regulations set by the federal government. The United States has a federalist government, meaning that the citizens are held to the laws of the state and the nation, but the federal government was left nearly powerless to enforce any type of authority. Congress had no way of being able to regulate commerce and no authority to emplace taxes.…
